Etch A Sketch is a mechanical sketching toy designed in France by André Cassagnes and later made by the Ohio Art Company.
Spin Master of Toronto, Ontario, Canada now owns it. The screen of an Etch A Sketch is thick and flat, with a red plastic frame.
On the front of the frame, in the lower corners, there are two white knobs. Twisting the knobs causes a pen to displace aluminium powder on the screen’s back, leaving a solid line. Lineographic images are created by turning the knobs. The stylus is moved horizontally by the left control and vertically by the right control.
