Illustration Ballarat. Track Shoe Illustration featuring City Oval Ballarat

Zinglogo’s illustrated track shoe,
which also showcases Ballarat’s City Oval and its grandstand.

The grandstand was built in 1898 by local architects Clegg, Kell and Miller, boasting an impressive arched roof supported by iron columns and cast iron brackets. Three lanterns sit atop the roof with concave roofs holding flagpoles. The front of the grandstand is adorned with cast iron balustrading intricately designed as sunflowers, while the upper seating section houses dressing rooms and stairways. The grandstand is significant as a well-preserved example of late 19th-century architecture, with a unique roof design uncommon in Victoria. The surrounding ticket boxes and mature trees add to its overall ambiance.

The Illustration exhibits a style reminiscent of Guy Billout’s. Billout, a celebrated French artist and illustrator born on July 7, 1941, was recognized with the Hamilton King Award in 1989 and was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 2016. His trademark aesthetic is associated with its crisp, minimalist and meticulous design, frequently highlighted by an ironic twist, opulent hues, and exceptional workmanship. In his depictions, Billout creates a surreal alternate dimension where something continually appears askew.
